Songs on the Camino

In the spring of 2019, Gavia walked 800km across France along the Chemin du Puy, a historic pilgrimage route dating from the middle ages. Gavia carried her violin in her backpack and performed daily in cathedrals and chapels along the route. Using the melodies and songs she composed on the trail, she is working on an album of solo violin that explores the beauty, emotions, and community she encountered on her trip.

HEARTBEAT

Together with Jessica Heaven, Gavia is an Artistic Director and founder of HEARTBEAT, an initiative that aims to build community and promote pluralism through collaborative music. Sponsored in 2018 by the  2018 JUNO host committee, Creative BC and Music BC, and in 2019 by Creative BC and Music BC (among many others), HEARTBEAT culminates in a yearly sold-out concert of world music. Receiving air time on Co-op Radio, CJSF, and CBC, stay-tuned for further updates on future HEARTBEAT initiatives.

Ptriodactyl

Hailing from Salmon Arm and Vancouver, Ptriodactyl is an electrifying trio of voice, violin, and bass, that travels 465 km to rehearse, record, and perform together. This youthful, innovative group is constantly challenging themselves in both their originals and their interpretations of jazz standards by refusing to transcribe to the traditional musical roles of their instruments. In 2018, Ptriodactyl completed three domestic tours and released their debut album (available for sale on bandcamp). With their effervescent synergy, musical interplay, and sense of humour, Ptriodactyl captivates audiences and is not one to miss.
