Over the course of the summer from early July to mid-August, I will be in Puerto Rico conducting extensive field research for my PhD. This work is a collaborative effort between the Mahler lab at the University of Toronto and the Frishkoff lab at the University of Texas, Arlington. Both teams, containing PIs, grad students, and a fleet of undergraduates will be working together to estimate population sizes of Anolis lizards across a variety of sites that encompass the temperature and precipitation gradient of Puerto Rico.
What this means is that every week or so, we will be in a new location spanning the elevational extent of the island. Sometimes we will be in tropical dry forests (think thorns), while other weeks we will be in wet forests, and cloud forests. While we are estimating Anolis population sizes, we will also be collecting information on what they eat (fecal sampling) and estimating the biomass and diversity of available food sources (ie insect surveys).
I will be posting updates as I have time, energy, and internet! Subscribe to never miss an update!
